St. Joseph's Club House is designed to create a restorative environment
for people with mental illness. Members and staff work together as
colleagues to accomplish the goals of the ClubHouse.
The program helps people with serious, persistent mental illness to
restore their self-esteem and self-confidence, to re-enter the job
market and to live independently. St. Joseph House offers meaningful
relationships in a supportive, caring environment. A comprehensive
program of vocational training and social adjustment is offered five
days a week from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. Social and recreational activities
are offered on evenings and weekends.
St. Joseph's ClubHouse provides the opportunity to be in an environment
which enables members to build the confidence, self-esteem, and skills
necessary for vocationally productive and socially satisfying lives
while living and accepting their illness.
Our goal is to help individuals who are destitute, both emotionally and
materially, to re-enter society with a feeling of self-worth and with
the ability to make a contribution to their community. Regaining
self-respect and dignity is the first step toward living a full life.
Social Skills, punctuality, self-respect and the respect for others are
motivating tools that prove job readiness. We are prepared to assist in
the transition from the ClubHouse to the world of employment.
St. Joseph House is a member of the INternational Center for Clubhouse
Development. It is the first member in TExas to be awarded this
distinction.
